The Best Bike Riding Adventures for the Families in the West!
Mamma and the fam love a bike adventure - from when the kiddos were just learning on their wobbly training wheels at the park, to discovering new places along the many trails we have around the west. Nothing beats the feeling of freedom and adventure you get when you’re on a bike! Mamma has gathered some of her favourite bike adventures for you to discover!
This is a wonderful little track that curls around and in between the Edgewater Marina and Maribyrnong River. The track is smooth and flat, perfect for prams, bikes, scooters and wheelchairs.
Smooth pathways and wondrous sculptures - it is a fantastic outdoor adventure for the family.
Mamma loves to get outdoors and get the legs pumping with a good bike ride. Altona Coastal Park is one of the best rides around. You can still see a lone date palm and the ruins of the grandstand of the old Williamstown Racecourse which saw Phar Lap race and win the Underwood Stakes in 1931. Giddy up!
We in the West are blessed with Melbourne's most beautiful river right on our doorstep (you can't blame Mamma for being biased) and The Maribyrnong River Trail provides endless opportunities to choose your own outdoor adventure to enjoy it via foot, bike or trike.
Mamma's got one word for this place. WOW! Whether your movement of choice is walking, running or cycling. This is the perfect spot to soak up some awesome icons of the West and the views of our beautiful city.
Mamma was told to expect the best views in Melbourne and was not disappointed. The top of the 100 Steps to Federation in Altona Meadows - provides uninterrupted 360 degree views of the You Yangs, Melbourne and the Bay. It is downright breathtaking and energising climbing to the top.
Mountain biking in Footscray? You betcha.
What an amazing use of space of what was an old quarry and then landfill until 1988! This stunning mountain bike trail park has spectacular views of the city and three descents to choose from
The Nook will make you feel as if you’ve stopped to rest at a quaint country town. A 20 minute walk from the centre of Sunbury, it features Jacksons Creek waterhole and a beautiful, natural open space.
For outdoor adventure lovers, The you Yangs has it all. The beauty of this area is stunning with those huge rocks, breathtaking views and lovely bushland.
With a creek running through its heart, a great pirate ship playground at the north west corner, picturesque walking tracks, circuit training stations, a BMX track and free tennis courts at the south end, Cruickshank Park has something for everyone
Huge new playground in the new Mambourin - next to Werribee - with huge towers, water play, basketball, flying foxes and more!
A lovely little playground, with two play areas, a basketball half court, bike track, exercise equipment, grassy spaces, BBQs and picnic tables!
Swings, slides, giant climbing pyramid, rocking boat, nest swing, basketball court, tables, shelter, barbecues, great shady trees, and grassy spaces. What more could you ask for in a playground? How about a neighbouring grassland reserve (Matthews Hill Reserve) with walks and bush camping vibes, and an off-leash dog area?
This playground has been designed in such a way to invite creative and mindful play, and to utilise those gross motor skills, meaning your kids will be totally WORN OUT! And while the kids are off making up obstacle courses, you can relax. Mamma rarely comes across a playground this tranquil.
The new Junior Bike Skills Track at Hansen Reserve will have your little ones levelling up bike and scooter skills in no time! Let them ride over bumps and humps, sweep around corners and then build up speed to follow the track past the footy oval and down into the playground, for an action packed day out!
The little truck and tractor lovers in your family will have a WHEELIE good time at this playground!
Steering wheels! Tractor tyres! Slides! Swings! Tunnels! Rock climbing! See-saw! Mamma LOVES it here!
Locals will be loving how great this park is and it is sure to become THE favourite of the area
Well, this is a great spot Mamma couldn't wait to share with you!
It is a very popular spot for locals who know of this hidden gem and Mamma's kids absolutely love it - we often get requests to go to ‘traffic park!’ This park is more suited to pre-schoolers or up to six years old and only really for small bikes, scooters, trikes, balance bikes or similar.
This park is a fav for both big and little kids with a smaller bowl skate/scooter section.
This once tired playground has just recently has a fantastic make over!
Altona is rich with playgrounds and parks dotted all the way along the beach and foreshore. This one is one of our all time favourite parks!
Mamma says visiting this park on Chery Lake is a must for any true blue Westie. Gaze over the water and take a little time to unwind while your little (and big!) ones explore and the Lions Market is on here on the first Sunday of the month!
