blackwood pub, blackwood

This cozy old pub in the Wombat Forest in Blackwood is rich in history - opening in 1868 at the height of the Gold Rush. This great old pub has a lovely ‘old pub’ ambience - with the fire place and couch area in winter and the deck out the back under the old oak tree in the warmer months, also in residence -  a family of Kookaburra's!

Food is the usual pub fare with separate kids menu and we found it delicious. Now, it would be remiss of Mamma not to also mention that rumour has it that there are at least 3 ghosts that haunt this historic place - an old miner, Frederick a caretaker, and Laura a kitchen hand....the cellar was also used as a morgue at one time......eeek! Now though, the only spirit Mamma saw on the day was a shot or two of whiskey.
