seaworks maritime museum, williamstown
/As one of Melbournes oldest suburbs, Williamstown has such a rich and colourful history. From Nelson place being built by convicts, to Gem Pier being Melbourne’s first seaport. Here at the Seaworks Maritime Museum, some of that history has been preserved so that our generation get to appreciate it.
There are plenty of amazing artefacts, and ship models to see, even a VR set that takes you onto a ship - but the most interesting thing are the tales that the men who run this museum tell. Their passion for the maritime history of the area is clear, and you can spend lots of time just listening to these stories. This special place is worth a wander through next time you are in the area.
You can also see some of the larger items out behind Seaworks - like what is left of the Gellibrand Pile Light - and more recent history, the gang plank from the Titanic Restaurant.
