RAAF museum, point cook
/NOW REOPENED
You'd be forgiven for thinking that the RAAF base in Point Cook was strictly off limits to us regular folk, but in fact we are all welcome to pop in and view the amazing museum they have created. It has only recently reopened and there is even more to see than before.
The main building takes you through the ages starting with WW1 through to the Middle East- the uniforms, flags, letters, and so many other artefacts, ‘scenes’ such as the trenches that give you a small insight into what these brave men and women went through.
Original pieces such as rations, pieces of shrapnel, notebooks, medals and hand written notes all bring a bit more reality to our history. The effort to preserve this part of our history is very much appreciated.
There are now two HUGE hangars to explore too, housing some INCREDIBLE aircraft - Fighter jets, helicopters, vintage propellor planes and bombers - including fascinating paraphernalia like ejector seats and survival kits in case of landing in enemy territory.
It really does put things into perspective and is a great way to explain to our kids how lucky we all are.
Keep an eye out for the amazing volunteers who can give even more insight into the museum.
