mount mitchell homestead, lexton
/Mamma is just going to come right out and say it - Mount Mitchell Homestead is one of the most beautiful properties Mamma has ever seen. It is situated in the Pyrenees region - just past Ballarat, and almost 2 hours from Melbourne. The homestead was built way back in the 1860's and was designed by Charles Webb who also did the Windsor Hotel. You will be amazed at every turn at the awe inspiring gardens - the huge manicured hedges, the vast lush green lawns, the poplars, the orchard - which makes you feel like Alice in Wonderland - as well as the rose garden... divine...not to mention the lake! The main house (and private residence) is majestic and grand and the outbuildings are full of character and just gorgeous. As a lover of veggie patches Mamma is green with envy at the rows of kitchen garden lovingly tended to and harvested for restaurants in the area.
The property has only recently been open to the public by owners Kate and Simon Toi and thanks to them we can all get to experience this amazing venue at the festivals they hold and the open gardens days, plus you can hire the place for functions.
Mamma's special mention: The property also has two fantastic accommodation options so you can come and stay with the family and experience all this place has to offer - including being a working farm. Amazing.
