sneak peek - FREE EVENT playing up at THE SUBSTATION, newport
/Mamma and the crew were super fortunate to check out Playing Up at The Substation in Newport before it opens tomorrow and it is so much fun! Part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival Mamma says YOU MUST check out this fantastic family friendly FREE event these school holidays.
With no bookings required, it is the perfect event to just rock along too. It really is wonderful to hang out here with the creative team, they are an inspiring bunch to spend some time with. Be warned though - with no set time limit to create so be prepared to spend a coupe of hours here.
PLAYING UP is a game of sorts that you can all play together as a family. So, pick a card, grab your corresponding box or find your ‘art station’ and away you go. You will find yourself playing dress ups and walking the catwalk, creating some of your own art to hang in the Substation, making a moving construction piece, or even being ‘controlled’ by the kids via walkie talkies! FUN!
This is an opportunity to get really immersed with the kids, learn about real life art pieces and create your own version of some famous works. Mamma has no doubt we will be back over the next couple of days to try more activities!
PLAYING UP is an artwork by SIBYLLE PETERS of Theatre of Research, exploring how Live Art can bridge generations and suggest different ways of looking at the world.
Presented by The SUBSTATION and MELBOURNE FRINGE. Published and produced by the LIVE ART DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (UK), THEATRE OF RESEARCH (Germany), and TATE EARLY YEARS AND FAMILY PROGRAMME (UK).
