ballarat heritage weekend, ballarat
/If you’re yet to venture out to Ballarat this year, now might be the time, with the Ballarat Heritage Weekend hitting the city once again.
Set to be held on May 25 and 26, this year's two-day festival will keep the whole family entertained with loads of activities and events in celebration of heritage, technology and bygone eras!
Here are Mamma’s top picks for things to see and do during the event.
1. Horse + carriage rides
This is a sure crowd-pleaser, and a regular activity during Heritage Weekend. It’s a great way to admire the beautiful Ballarat streetscapes as you explore the city on a horse-ridden carriage. The kids will love it!
2. Up and Under Virtual Experience
The Ballarat Up and Under experience gives you another, more innovative, way of exploring the spaces above your head and below your feet using a virtual headset. These guided digital tours will take you through the city's underground shopfronts, tunnels and cells, and into some of Ballarat's tallest towers where you can take in the breathtaking views of the historic city!a
3. Smartphones and robots
Since this year’s festival is very much focused on celebrating the evolution of technology, a lot of the activities are based around this theme. Download the special Goosechase app during your visit, and form a team as you complete a series of activities and trivia questions throughout the weekend. Or take the kids along to the Robot Workshop and have them build and dress their very own android figures as they learn all about robots built through time.
4. Journey through music
Over two big nights, one song from every year since 1918 will be staged live by Ballarat's own performers. Have a dance and a boogie as you listen to the evolution of instruments and music styles over the past century. Featuring rock n roll, disco, pop and grunge, this is sure to have the whole fam busting a move!
